Who We Are
Women Empowerment in Africa
Kitenge Pride was founded as a means to help women living in poverty due to limited means of earning an income, a path to financial freedom that is sustainable and can meet the needs of their families.
Kitenge Pride works directly with women in the outskirts of Nairobi by empowering them to sell authentic African Kitenge fabric to us at a fair price, as well as working with local seamstresses to manufacture beautifully finished products made of those same fabrics.
By purchasing directly from these women who have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and using local seamstresses, we give them hope. We guarantee their sales to us so that they can focus on lifting themselves and there families out of the constraints of a crippling lack of financial freedom opportunities such as this one.
As the founder of this organization, I have had the burden in my heart to empower African women in impoverished conditions because when a woman is educated and means of providence for her family made available, her entire community feels the impact. Her children will be educated and taken care of and her family will be healthier. These benefits are also most likely to trickle down to the next generation by her work. As a woman, I also hold this position dearly because this could also have easily been me on the other side of this venture.

Kitenge
Kitenge has been used in East African cultures as well as other African cultures to make ceremonial dresses for as long as we can remember. Occasions such as traditional wedding ceremonies, baby and bridal showers and other major life events were and still are adorned by this beautiful fabric.
